1. Highest Run-chase by Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals pulled off an incredible run-chase against Kings XI Punjab. The record was previously held by the same team.
Kings Punjab set a target of 224 runs for the Rajasthan Royals. This target seemed like an impossible feat to achieve.
Team Rajasthan Royals pleasantly surprised everyone by hitting 226 runs in just 19.3 overs. They emerged victorious, breaking their own record after 12 years.
2. Two Super Overs in the Same Match
A Super Over is an additional over when each team bats for one moreover after the match ends in a tie. The team that scores higher runs in the Super Over is declared the winner.
Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians ended up playing twin super overs in the same match. Both these teams had been a part of a super over against other teams. However, nobody could have imagined that 2 super overs would take place in the same match.
3. Chennai Super Kings failed to qualify for Playoffs
Historically, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) qualified for the playoffs a maximum number of times. However, this changed in IPL 2020 as they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time.
Chennai Super Kings is considered a very successful team under the able captainship of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, IPL 2020 did not seem to go in their favor.
The poor performance of CSK bowlers and batsmen were identified as the key reason for the setback. They won just 6 matches, which was the lowest by CSK in IPL tournaments.
4. Mohammed Siraj’s back to back wicket maiden
Mohammed Siraj of Royal Challenge Bangalore bowled back-to-back wicket maidens and finished with a fantastic spell of 4-2-8-3.
Subsequently, in this match RCB bowled out Kolkata Knight Riders for 84 runs and won the match in just 13.3 overs.
Siraj became the first bowler in the history of the IPL tournament to bowl a back-to-back wicket maiden.
5. IPL had a Record Viewership
IPL 2020 reached a record viewership of more than 400 million.
This means that almost half of all Indian TV viewers watched the IPL at one point or another.
The viewership numbers of the 2020 IPL tournament were also record-high due to the fact that many Indians were in lockdown or had very little to do during those peak Covid-19 months.
The high IPL 2020 viewership numbers also had an impact on other areas. For example, there were more people than ever using online cricket betting sites during the tournament, according to MyBetting.in.
