Left-arm Sri Lanka seamer Dilshan Madushanka is all set to miss a number of games for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League season starting from March 22nd onwards. Madushanka was bought the Mark Boucher-led management for a price way above his base price. His name created a bidding war during the auction which took place at the Coca-Cola arena in Dubai last December before Mumbai acquired him for 4.6 crore.
Dilshan Madushanka was recently taking part in the white-ball phase of Sri Lanka’s all-format tour of Bangladesh, which is at its mid-point. The Lankans had won the T20I series by 2-1, winning the 1st and 3rd T20I, while the ODI series is currently level at 1-1 with Bangladesh winning the 1st one and the visitors winning the 2nd one at the Zarur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium.
Sri Lanka Cricket Board provides confirmation about Dilshan Madushanka’s injury
While bowling in the 1st innings of Sri Lanka’s 3-wicket win 2 days ago, Dilshan Madushanka had pulled up his left hamstring whose seriousness reached a point that he had to leave the field mid-game. He could not even complete his 7th over of the match as he was taken off the field by Lanka’s medical team immediately after he reported of pain.
Madushanka had bowled 6.4 overs in the match, picking up the wickets of opening batter Litton Das and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 0 and 40 respectively. The Bangla Tigers had eventually posted 286 on the board through the efforts of Soumya Sarkar who got out for 68 and Towhid Hridoy remained not out for a 102-ball 96 runs with 3 fours and 5 sixes.
After getting off the field, Madushanka was sent for a round of MRI scans which eventually ruled him out of the entire series in which the 3rd ODI and the 2 Test matches are yet to be played.
“Dilshan Madushanka will not further take part in the ongoing tour as the bowler will return to start rehabilitation work after suffering an injury during the 2nd ODI. Madushanka, who left the field during the second ODI while bowling, has suffered a left hamstring injury, as confirmed by an MRI scan performed on the player,” Sri Lanka cricket board said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka assistant coach Naveed Nawaz while speaking to the reporters confirmed that the pacer Dilshan Madushanka will be out of action for 4-6 weeks.

Dilshan Madushanka boasts of a decent international record since making his debut not that long ago in 2022.
The 23-year-old has scalped 41 ODI wickets from 23 matches and has 14 T20I wickets in 14 outings. He has previously represented franchises like Sharjah Warriors in ILT20 and Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 league. His absence might not hurt Mumbai that much who have a decent backup in the bowling attack.
