Former Australia and Chennai Super Kings batter Michael Hussey, who is currently the batting coach of the franchise, claimed that skipper MS Dhoni is still hitting the ball cleanly as he used to. Hussey has been observing Dhoni’s return to the cricket field after a historic 2023 year which saw him become the joint-most successful IPL captain.

With MS Dhoni staging his competitive return and possibly playing his last season of IPL, Michael Hussey believes that he might not be able to run that quickly but he still can hit clean strikes towards the backend of an innings. The Aussie did confirm that Dhoni has been doing pretty well in the nets and that it’s great to see him back.

While speaking at a recent local cricket event in Chennai, Michael Hussey made this particular admission about MS Dhoni hitting the ball extremely well and not seeming as if he is returning after a year. He also provided a huge update on Dhoni’s knee issues, saying that the wicketkeeper-batsman is fully fine.

“He’s preparing really well. His knee seems good at this stage. And he’s batting extremely well at the moment. I must admit he’s like Benjamin Button! He keeps getting better.”

“He’s not as young as he used to be. So, the scampering between the wickets is going to be more difficult for him. But at the back end of the innings, where there’s not as much sprinting, he can still hit the ball very cleanly. And he’s hitting the ball extremely well at the moment. It’s great to see,” Hussey said via Sportstar.

In that interview, Hussey had also shed light on CSK’s new buy Sameer Rizvi who pocketed 8.40 crores during the player auction last year in Dubai’s Coca-Cola arena. The batting coach revealed that Rizvi will be in contention to play CSK’s opening match as he can, and might as well become a like-to-like replacement for Ambati Rayudu who retired last year.

Hussey also spoke about the injuries of Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana which will see them miss out on Chennai’s first few games. The Australian stated that even if they are world-class players, CSK have enough depth in their squad to make up for their absence.

While most of the players in the team are playing side roles, it’s MS Dhoni who will be the leading character of the team who might be having his last dance in the tournament. If 2024 really is going to be his final season then all of his fans will be hoping to rewind the clock and perform the way he did in the few seasons of his last decade.

If anything, MS Dhoni fans will back him to come higher in the order show more of his blistering six-hitting prowess, and have a season like he had in 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2019 when he crossed the 400-run mark in the league. Meanwhile, the good news that has arrived from Bangladesh confirms that Mustafizur Rahman has flown to India to join CSK for IPL 2024.
