The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 kick-started on Friday (22nd March) with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The southern derby took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made sure that they kick-started the IPL 2024 on high as they thumped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 6 wickets. They were exceptional with the bat and ball in the game and bagged important two points under their belt in the game.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the toss and opted to bat first. They were off to a blistering start with the bat, thanks to skipper Faf du Plessis. He came out all guns blazing and took an attack on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowlers right from the start.

Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli added 41 runs for the opening partnership before the skipper got out for 35 runs. One wicket brought two for RCB as they lost Rajat Patidar for a three-ball duck in the same over. Things got worse for the visitors as after that they lost wickets in clusters.

Glenn Maxwell bagged a golden duck in the next over and the onus was on Virat Kohli. The batter looked good at the crease but couldn’t convert the start that he got. He scored 21 runs off 20 balls as RCB came under immense pressure. Cameron Green followed the top four as he got out early too.

The all-rounder scored 18 runs off 22 and his wicket left RCB tottering at 78/5. It seemed that they would get all out early but Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik joined hands together and ensured that they bailed the team out of trouble and helped them post a competitive total on the board.

The duo played magnificently well and added 95 runs together. While Anuj Rawat scored 48 runs off 25 balls, Dinesh Karthik remained unbeaten at 38 runs off 26 balls. Their valiant effort helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru post a big total of 173 runs on the board.

For Chennai Super Kings, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers. On what was his debut game, he picked four wickets and returned with the figures of 4/29. Apart from him, Deepak Chahar also bagged one wicket whereas no other bowler could manage a wicket.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were off to a valiant start with the bat. Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) batted aggressively at the top and put RCB’s new ball bowlers under immense pressure in the chase at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

After skipper Gaikwad got out, Rachin Ravindra and Ajinkya Rahane (27) did carnage on the RCB bowlers with their sensational stroke play. The duo exhibited high-class batting before Daryl Mitchell (22) also chipped in and played a brutal cameo.

RCB came back in the game as they picked wickets at crucial junctures and reduced CSK to 110/4. But Shivam Dube (34*) and Ravindra Jadeja (25*) made sure that their team didn’t lose any more wickets and won the game comfortably. The duo added 65 runs together as CSK chased the target with 6 wickets in hand.
