Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka has been ruled out of the early stages of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to injury. Dilshan Madushanka sustained the injury during the second ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh.

Madushanka sustained the injury during his seventh over and was forced to leave the field, unable to continue bowling. He will be absent for the final ODI against Bangladesh and unavailable for selection in the upcoming Test series due to a hamstring injury.

He claimed four wickets with an economy rate of 5.04 in the series against Bangladesh. He dismissed Litton Das in both matches. However, he’ll miss the upcoming ODI on March 18 due to injury, as confirmed by an MRI scan, and will focus on his rehabilitation.

“Dilshan Madushanka will not further take part in the ongoing tour as the bowler will return to start rehabilitation work after suffering an injury during the 2nd ODI. Madushanka, who left the field during the second ODI while bowling, has suffered a left hamstring injury, as confirmed by an MRI scan performed on the player,” the statement read.

Dilshan Madushanka Ruled Out Of Early Stages Of IPL 2024

As reported by ESPNCricinfo, Dilshan Madushanka will miss the early matches of the IPL 2024 due to his hamstring injury.

Following his standout performances at the 2023 ODI World Cup, Madushanka secured a lucrative contract worth Rs 4.6 crore with the five-time champions. The left-arm pacer took 21 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 25, including a best figure of 5/80.

Madushanka’s injury leaves a void in the Mumbai Indians’ pace bowling department. However, they have alternatives, like Jason Behrendorff and Nuwan Thushara. Behrendorff will provide a left-arm option to strengthen the team’s bowling lineup in the IPL 2024.

Jasprit Bumrah’s resurgence in prime form has provided a major uplift to the franchise following outstanding displays in the recent Test series. His partnership with Gerald Coetzee promises to fortify the team’s bowling unit further for the upcoming challenges.
