Is Mitchell Starc's IPL auction price justified by any means? Title winning KKR champions blows away with his opinion

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) legend Manvinder Bisla feels Mitchell Starc will boost significant growth among other fast bowlers in the team in IPL 2024. Mitchell Starc is part of KKR in IPL 2024; making a comeback to the league after a long gap.

Mitchell Starc played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He was picked by KKR in the 2018 season but was ruled out of the league due to an injury later. In IPL 2024, Starc was picked by KKR for a record-breaking price of Rs. 24.75 crore.

The Aussie pacer became the most expensive player in IPL auction history. He will lead the pace attack for the side. Some other pace bowlers in the KKR squad are Vaibhav Arora, Chetan Sakariya, Dushmantha Chameera, and Harshit Rana.

KKR bowlers will improve under Mitchell Starc

Former KKR legend Manvinder Bisla hailed Mitchell Starc during a chat on My Khel ahead of KKR’s opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bisla, who led KKR to victory in the IPL 2012 final, feels that other KKR bowlers will improve under Starc’s guidance.

“If you observe them, you’ll notice that these bowlers will also improve under Starc’s guidance, as he will shoulder the pressure. Hence, I anticipate significant growth among the remaining fast bowlers”, Bisla said.

Bisla also believes KKR missed a powerful pace bowler for a long time but they now have Starc.

“They were missing a lethal fast bowler for a long time. They didn’t have a specialist who could out-battle the other team,” Bisla further added.

KKR released their pacers ahead of IPL 2024 auction

Notably, two-time IPL champions KKR released almost their entire pace attack ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. The franchise parted ways with pacers like Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav, and Tim Southee. These pacers largely failed to make an impact last season.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc will lead a new journey in IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders. During the earlier two seasons, the left-arm pacer played 27 games. The Aussie speedster hunted 34 scalps at a wonderful economy of 7.17 and an average of 20.38. He also clinched a 4-wicket haul for 15 runs once; his best bowling show in IPL.

KKR to face SRH in IPL 2024 opening game

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders are set to clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first match of IPL 2024. The Match 3 of the league takes place on Saturday, March 23 at Eden Gardens Stadium.

Shreyas Iyer leads KKR in IPL 2024. He was absent from the last season due to injury. Nitish Rana led the team in his absence. However, he failed to drive the team into playoffs. KKR has also signed Gautam Gambhir as the mentor for the 2024 season. KKR eyed their third IPL title after winning the league in the 2012 and 2014 editions.
