KKR to begin their main IPL 2024 pre-season camp in Kolkata from March 15

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), on Friday (March 1), announced that their main pre-season camp for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will kickstart in Kolkata from March 15, one week before the start of the tournament.

The highly-anticipated IPL 2024 is scheduled to get underway on March 22. Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings will lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the tournament opener in Chennai. On the other hand, KKR will launch their campaign on March 23 when they take on 2016 IPL winners Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground Eden Gardens.

In another update, the Kolkata-based outfit stated that some of its domestic players are currently busy plying their trades in the ongoing DY Patil T20 Cup in Navi Mumbai. As a result, KKR’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has set up a temporary training facility at the KKR Academy in Mumbai for this week.

According to a report in CricketNext, the players who are currently training under the supervision of Nayar are vice-captain Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, Chetan Sakariya, Sakib Hussain and Ramandeep Singh.

KKR eyes IPL title:

KKR will be desperate to go all the way in the IPL this year and win their third title and first since 2014. After making it to the final in 2021, they could not progress ahead of the league stage in 2022 and 2023. The two-time IPL champions have a strong squad for IPL 2024 and will be fancying their chances.

Shreyas Iyer will be leading the side this year and will be eyeing a strong maiden season with the franchise. He missed the last season completely due to a back injury. In his absence, Nitish Rana led the side. With the likes of Iyer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Roy, Rinku Singh, Mitchell Starch, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, and others in their ranks, KKR will be one of the strongest contenders for the title this year.
