Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to induct Mayank Yadav in the list of players with fast bowling contracts. Ian Bishop’s comments arrive after Mayank Yadav’s marvelous debut in IPL 2024.
Playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Yadav grabbed eyeballs with his pace attack in the debut game vs Punjab Kings. The 23-year-old clocked 150-plus KMPH speeds consistently to demolish the opposition batters. His ability to bowl 150-plus deliveries has made him the most-talked-about youngster in IPL 2024.
Mayank Yadav has clinched 6 wickets across 2 games. With 3-wicket hauls in both games, the right-arm pacer won the Player of the Match (POTM) award. His spells helped LSG to defend totals against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Notably, BCCI has offered pacers’ contracts to five Indian bowlers so far. They are Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, Vidwath Kaverappa. However, if Yadav continues with similar shows in IPL 2024, he might earn a pacer’s contract with BCCI in the future.
Mayank Yadav drives LSG to victory against RCB
Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to victory in the previous match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Asked to bat first, Quinton de Kock gave a stunning start to the LSG with his 56-ball-81. Later, Marcus Stoinis added 24 runs but lost his wicket.
Nicholas Pooran added a quickfire 40 off 21 in the death overs to set up a powerful total. RCB bowlers dismissed some LSG batters cheaply at the start. However, they failed to outplay Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran, who shattered spectacular knocks in the IPL 2024 encounter.
RCB batters fail to shine once again
During the chase, RCB lost Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis cheaply for 22 and 19. Rajat Paditar added 29 runs but became a victim of Mayank Yadav. Later, the LSG bowler also demolished key batters Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green cheaply, dismissing them for 0 and 9 respectively.

Lucknow lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their first match of Indian Premier League 2024. They will next face Gujarat Titans at home on Sunday, April 7.
