Michael Vaughan overlooked Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill when predicting the leading run-scorer of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Michael Vaughan expressed uncertainty regarding whether Punjab Kings’ Liam Livingstone will secure the orange cap.

Excitement is building as the 17th edition of the IPL approaches, which is set to commence on March 22. The tournament will kick off with a match between the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in red-hot form, scoring two double-hundreds in the Test series against England. In IPL 2023, the southpaw amassed 624 runs in 14 matches, setting a record for the highest runs scored by an uncapped player in a single season of the IPL.

During a discussion on the Club Prairie Fire YouTube channel, Ollie Silverton selected Liam Livingstone as the top run-scorer for the upcoming season. Michael Vaughan considered Livingstone a strong contender, but questioned his adaptability to Indian conditions.

Virat Kohli Is Going To Have A Whale Of A Time – Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan predicted that Virat Kohli would emerge as the top run-scorer, citing Bengaluru’s batting-friendly pitch. Vaughan forecasted Rohit Sharma to perform well for Mumbai Indians, expecting him to have the highest strike rate in the tournament.

“Virat Kohli is going to have quite a good time of it this year in the IPL. He’s fresh. He plays at Bengaluru; that pitch is a road. The ball comes off the outside edge and ends up in the town center. I think he’s going to have a whale of a time,” Vaughan said.

“I think Rohit Sharma’s going to do nicely for Mumbai. It’s just the player at the top of the order. Rohit Sharma’s strike rate is going to be the highest, but Virat Kohli is going to be the leading run-scorer in this year’s IPL,” the former England batter added.

Virat Kohli, renowned for his remarkable consistency, remains the IPL’s top run scorer, amassing over 7,000 runs. The right-handed batter showcased his prowess in the previous season, scoring 639 runs in 14 matches, including two centuries and six half-centuries.

Expectations are high for Kohli’s performance in IPL 2024, considering his refreshed state after a break. Kohli opted out of the recent Test series against England to be present for the birth of his second child. He recently rejoined the RCB team before the match against CSK.

Rohit Sharma enters the IPL after a successful stint against England, where he showcased his batting prowess with two centuries and a fifty. The former MI skipper aims to play freely after being relinquished the Mumbai captaincy to Hardik Pandya for the IPL 2024.

Sharma ranks among the leading run scorers in IPL history, amassing 6211 runs in 243 matches at a strike rate of 130.05, including one century and 42 half-centuries. Notably, he has also contributed with the ball, claiming 15 wickets, including a memorable hat-trick.
