Former Indian player Majoy Tiwary made a bold prediction for Mumbai Indians’ future in IPL 2024. Manoj Tiwary feels Rohit Sharma will get back captaincy from Hardik Pandya. His words arrive after Mumbai Indians’ back-to-back losses in IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya parted ways with his former franchise Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2024 to join his former team Mumbai Indians. After his addition to the MI squad, he was also named the captain for IPL 2024 by replacing Rohit Sharma.

Notably, Rohit Sharma led the side since the 2013 season and grabbed 5 titles for the team under his captaincy. However, unlike his former team Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has highly failed to lead MI effectively in IPL 2024.

The Hardik Pandya & Co. have lost 3 games in a row. They have dropped to the last spot in the IPL 2024 points table. Interestingly, Mumbai Indians are the only team to not win a single game in IPL 2024.

MI captaincy could be handed back to Rohit Sharma: Manoj Tiwary

During a chat on Cricbuzz, former KKR player Manoj Tiwary made a surprising prediction for Mumbai Indians. The 38-year-old feels Rohit Sharma can be given Mumbai Indians’ captaincy back from Hardik Pandya.

“Mumbai’s captaincy could be handed back to Rohit Sharma. What I understand is that the owners of Mumbai Indians don’t hesitate in making decisions. They made the call of taking the captaincy from Rohit and giving it to Hardik Pandya despite Rohit winning five IPL titles for them,” the former right-handed batter said.

MI captaincy has not been very great: Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary, who represented Team India from 2008 to 2015, also feels changing captaincy from Hardik Panday to Rohit Sharma is a very big call. He also added the reason for Mumbai Indians’ back-to-back defeats is their poor captaincy.

“Changing the captain is a very big call. They have not picked up a single point this season. The captaincy is also all over the place, it’s not just bad luck and the captaincy has been very good, but that’s not the case. The captaincy has not been great,” added Tiwary, who played 12 ODIs and 3 T20Is for India.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have faced three huge defeats in IPL 2024 at the start. The men-in-blue lost their opening game to Gujarat Titans by 6 runs. Even after a marvelous start chasing 169, MI eventually remained short of 6 runs in the end.

SRH piled up IPL’s highest-ever knock vs MI

In their second game, Mumbai Indians lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 31 runs. The Hardik Pandya & Boys gave their worst-ever bowling show as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted IPL’s top team total of 277-3. In response, MI could only reach 246-5 in 20 overs.

In their previous match vs Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians failed with the bat at their home stadium Wankhede. Facing three ducks at the start, MI could only reach 125-9 in 20 overs. Later, RR chased down the total in 15.3 overs with Riyal Parag’s half-century.
