Chennai Super Kings (CSK) received a significant boost as Mustafizur Rahman departed for India to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Mustafizur Rahman made an announcement on social media about joining the CSK camp ahead of the tournament.
Mustafizur Rahman faced severe cramps and had to be stretchered off the field during the third ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Monday, March 18. While Bangladesh secured victory in the final match and the series, concerns were raised over Mustafizur’s fitness.
The left-arm pacer bowled nine overs, taking the wickets of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka. However, Rahman was uncomfortable, and he collapsed before bowling his final over. He was to complete his final over in the recent ODI match.

Before departing for Chennai on Tuesday morning, Mustafizur shared a post on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account, depicting him at the airport with his luggage. The Bangladesh pacer expressed excitement about joining the CSK camp for IPL 2024.

“Excited and looking forward to my new assignment. Heading to Chennai for IPL 2024. Keep me in your prayers so that I can deliver my best,” Mustafizur wrote.
The CSK team secured Mustafizur’s services at his base price of Rs 2 crore during the auction in December, marking his seventh season in the league. He has previously represented Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Mumbai Indians, the Rajasthan Royals, and the Delhi Capitals.
The 28-year-old pacer made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. He played 48 matches in the tournament, taking 47 wickets at an average of 30.72 and an economy rate of 7.93. However, he played only two matches in the last season and took one wicket.
Mustafizur Rahman Might Secure Place In Playing XI Against RCB
The Chennai-based franchise is currently facing challenges, with injuries affecting some key players. Opening batter Devon Conway has a thumb injury, and fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana suffered a hamstring tear during the recent T20I series against Bangladesh.
The MS Dhoni-led side will kick off this year’s IPL by facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, March 22. Mustafizur could potentially join the XI as Chennai’s lone overseas pacer, with Matheesha Pathirana sidelined.
RCB has encountered difficulties in Chennai since IPL 2008, enduring seven consecutive losses at the venue. Meanwhile, CSK boasts a dominant record with 20 wins against RCB’s 10 in the tournament, including an eight-run victory in their sole encounter last season. CSK secured a convincing seven-wicket win in their last IPL opener against RCB in 2019.
