Not fast bowling!! Mayank Yadav reveals why people compare him to Jasprit Bumrah

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav recently responded to comparisons with Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Mayank Yadav humorously acknowledged that many people often draw parallels between him and the two renowned cricketers.

Mayank Yadav caught the attention with a breathtaking spell against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday, March 30. The young pacer achieved the remarkable feat of bowling the fastest delivery of the ongoing season.

The 21-year-old bowler recorded an impressive speed of 155.8 kph. The right-arm fast bowler picked up three wickets for just 27 runs in his four overs. He earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award after guiding the Lucknow-based team to their first win of the season.

I Keep Hearing This – Mayank Yadav

Mayank Yadav found fun in the comparisons and enjoyed the positive feedback regarding his appearance. He humorously noted that many have likened him to Suryakumar Yadav or Jasprit Bumrah, a comparison he finds entertaining.

“Many people have said that sometimes you look like Suryakumar Yadav & sometimes you look like Jasprit Bumrah so I keep hearing this (smiles),” said Mayank, speaking to the IPL website.

Mayank Yadav joined the bowling attack, with PBKS having all ten wickets intact and a required run rate just above 10. The bowler delivered four consecutive overs, leaving the opposition at 140-3 after 16 overs with a demanding required rate of 15 runs per over.

This Is My Third Season – Mayank Yadav

Reflecting on his journey, Mayank stated that this marks his third season in the Indian Premier League. He emphasized his determination to seize the opportunity after experiencing sidelining in previous seasons.

“This is my third reason. I didn’t get a chance in my first season and was injured the last season, so I waThe pace is my natural thing. My focus was always on the consistency. The moment I entered I knew I belonged there. As I took my first delivery I knew this was the moment and I had to make the best of it.”

The LSG team acquired the promising young pacer for a base price of Rs 20 lakh during the 2022 mega-auction. Unfortunately, he missed the entirety of the 2023 season due to an injury. However, the team management decided to retain him for the 2024 season.

Jasprit Bumrah Is The Best Fast Bowler – Mayank Yadav

Mayank Yadav credited his father for inspiring him to take fast bowling. He expressed a desire to emulate Jasprit Bumrah’s excellence. He reflected on his satisfaction with his performance, particularly highlighting his joy in claiming his first wicket, Jonny Bairstow.

My father inspired me to do this fast bowling. I think my inspiration and motivation is to be like Jasprit Bumrah, He is the best fast bowler in the world and I will try to be more like him,” he added.

“My favorite wicket was my first one, Jonny Bairstow. I had aimed to debut at a younger age, but I’m content with my performance tonight.”

Mayank is expected to maintain his spot in the playing XI when the Lucknow team faces Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their upcoming match at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday, April 2.
