Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket at Delhi Capitals (DC), expressed his excitement over Rishabh Pant’s return during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Sourav Ganguly stated that Rishabh Pant worked very hard to make a comeback after a horrific accident.

Rishabh Pant has been sidelined from competitive cricket since December 2022. The wicketkeeper-batsman underwent surgery for the injuries sustained in the accident. He is in the final stages of regaining fitness at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

The 26-year-old missed all cricket in 2023, including the home Test series against Australia, the IPL, the World Cup, and the South Africa Test series. However, Rishabh has been sharing updates on his rehab on social media. He was also seen during the IPL 2024 auction.

Hope Rishabh Pant Gets Back To Rhythm Very Quickly – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly said that Rishabh Pant‘s return will be a huge boost for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024. He emphasized the importance of Indian players in the event and expressed hope for Pant’s swift return to form after his lengthy hiatus from competitive cricket.

“It’s a huge boost for Delhi Capitals because Indian players are gold in the IPL. Obviously, he has not played much cricket and I hope he gets back to rhythm very quickly. It’s been a while he is away from competitive cricket, almost 17-18 months. He has worked very hard to make a comeback. He is confident and wants to play for Delhi Capitals and India. I am extremely happy he is back and hope he gets through the season,” Sourav told RevSportz.

DC co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed that Rishabh Pant will play as a specialist batter for Delhi Capitals and lead the team in the upcoming IPL season. However, Jindal stated that a decision regarding his role as a wicketkeeper will be made once he fully recovers.

Rishabh Pant Is Getting Ready For IPL 2024 – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly recently met Rishabh Pant during the WPL 2024 event in Bengaluru. The former BCCI president is optimistic about Pant’s readiness for a comeback, stating that Pant appeared confident about his participation in the upcoming IPL.

“I met him in Bangalore recently. He is getting ready and hopefully will play in IPL 2024. He looked very confident about playing in the IPL 2024 which begins from March 22. And that’s seriously good news for us in Delhi and India,” Ganguly added.

During IPL 2023, the David Warner-led side struggled to make a significant impact in the tournament and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The team finished in a disappointing ninth place in the points table, managing only five wins out of 14 league stage games.

The BCCI unveiled the schedule for the initial 21 matches of the IPL 2024 season. Delhi Capitals are slated to clash with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their opening fixture in Mohali on March 23. Following this, the Capitals are set to encounter Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians in their subsequent four matches.
