The 10th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) saw an intense clash between the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, March 29.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field first in the match. There were two changes in the KKR line-up as Nitish Rana and Suyash Sharma were left out with Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Anukul Roy replacing them. The hosts, meanwhile, didn’t make any changes to their playing XI.

After being invited to bat first, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started cautiously and scored 7 runs in the first over off Mitchell Starc.

In the second over, the RCB skipper tried to be aggresive and lost his wicket to Harshit Rana’s delivery. Despite losing a wicket, RCB batters attacked Starc for 17 runs in the next over and after batting well in the next few overs, they posted 61/1 on the board at the end of the powerplay.

After that, Cameron Green and Virat Kohli continued batting brilliantly and the duo contributed 33 and 32 runs respectively in a partnership of 65 runs. The young Aussie all-rounder was dismissed by Andre Russell in the 9th over for 33, which led to the arrival of Glenn Maxwell in the middle.

The veteran Aussie all-rounder got two reprieves but he wasn’t able to capitalise on it and was eventually cleaned up by Sunil Narine for 28 runs off 19 balls.

As RCB were losing wickets during this period, Virat Kohli stood strong on one end and played a wonderful innings. He remained unbeaten and smahsed 83 runs off 59 balls, with 4 fours and 4 sixes. In the end, Dinesh Karthik played a great camero of 20 runs that helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru post 182/6 on the board.

Chasing the target, Sunil Narine and Phil Salt played destructive innings to push the Faf du Plessis & Co. on the backfoot. Narine came in as a surprise to the home team as he smashed the bowlers all over the park.

Sunil Narine smahsed his runs at a strike rate of over 210 and his opening partner Salt wasn’t very far behind as he scored his runs at a strike rate of 150. Narine scored 47 while Salt smashed 30.

Then, Venkatesh Iyer took the charge and hit a terrific half-century. He was brilliant throughout his innings and smahsed 4 massive sixes and 3 fours. Shreyas Iyer (39) and Rinku Singh (5) also chipped in as KKR completed the run-chase with 19 balls remaining and won by 7 wickets.
