Gujarat Titans (GT), on Sunday (March 31), beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets to register their second win in the ongoing IPL 2024. Chasing 163, the Gujarat-based outfit chased down the total with five balls remaining.

Wriddhiman Saha gave GT a fast start by scoring 25 runs off just 12 balls before being sent back by Shahbaz Ahmed. Captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan then added 38 runs for the second wicket before the former perished while trying to play a big shot. Gill stepped down the track against Mayank Markande and hit his shot straight to the fielder at long-on to depart for 36.

Sudharsan and David Miller did not let SRH capitalize on the breakthrough as they added 64 runs for the third wicket. Pat Cummins broke the stand in the 17th over by dismissing Sudharsan for 45 to reduce GT to 138 for 3. Miller and Vijay Shankar then shared an unbeaten 30-run stand to take GT home.

Earlier in the game, Mohit Sharma’s brilliant spell with the ball helped GT restrict free-scoring SRH to 162/8. Having scored 204 and 277 in their last two games, the Hyderabad-based outfit kept losing wickets at regular intervals against GT.

As a result, their innings never really got the impetus it needed. Mayank Agarwal’s poor run in IPL 2024 continued as he was dismissed for just 16. Travis Head did not last long either and was clean bowled by Noor Ahmad for 19. Abhishek Sharma, who scored a 16-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians in the last game, started well, hitting Rashid Khan for two sixes but he too did not last long.

Mohit Sharma dismissed him for 29 to reduce SRH to 74 for 3. Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen added 34 runs for the fourth wicket and took the score past the 100-run mark before departing in quick succession. Klaasen was the first to go after being bowled by Rashid Khan for 24 before Umesh Yadav dismissed Markram for 17 to leave SRH reeling at 114 for 5.
