Cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar feels that Cameron Green has to perform well for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024. Gavaskar also gave a crucial reason why the Aussie all-rounder needs to pull his socks for RCB in IPL 2024.

Cameron Green became a member of RCB ahead of IPL 2024 auction. RCB picked Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians through a trade with an all-cash deal. Hence, RCB shelled out Rs. 17.50 crore to induct the Australia all-rounder into their squad.

In the previous auction, Green was picked by Mumbai Indians for this hefty amount. He was also among the most expensive players in the 2023 auction. However, MI parted ways with the Aussie all-rounder as they needed funds to capture Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans.

Cameron Green needs to perform for RCB in IPL 2024: Sunil Gavaskar

While speaking on Star Sports, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar said that Cameron Green needs to perform for RCB in IPL 2024 to compensate for the huge amount that the franchise has spent on him. Gavaskar also added that Green needs to perform with both bat and ball.

“This player will have to perform better than last year because of the price you bought him for. Yes, I agree he scored a century as well for the Mumbai Indians last year. However, he will have to perform better than that because you should recover the price you bought him for and the Mumbai Indians didn’t recover that”.

“If RCB have to cover the price, he has to do something not only in batting but bowling as well. He can deliver with the bat because he has that ability. He can play the big shots. He is well-organized in batting”, Sunil Gavaskar said.

Green can play as a finisher: Sunil Gavaskar

The former India skipper Gavaskar also feels that Cameron Green will play as a finisher for RCB as the franchise already has strong batters in the top order.

“I feel he will be a finisher only because they already have top-order batters. Rajat Patidar will play at no.3. Your top two will be Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. Glenn Maxwell will come at no.4”, Sunil Gavaskar concluded.

Cameron Green played 16 matches for MI last season. He shattered 452 runs averaging 50.22 and a strike rate of 160+. He also shattered 1 century and 2 half-centuries for the team. With the ball, he picked 6 wickets at 9.50 economy.

Hardik Pandya to lead MI in IPL 2024

However, MI wanted to get back their former all-rounder Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024. To get back Pandya from the Gujarat Titans, the five-time champions transferred Green to RCB. It helped them to generate enough funds for Pandya, who they picked for Rs. 15 crore. Later, the franchise also named Hardik Pandya as the new skipper of the team.

Meanwhile, IPL 2024 is expected to commence in the last week of March 2024. RCB, led by Faf du Plessis, will aim for their first title in the season once again. They have a strong batting line-up and also underwent many changes in the bowling department during the IPL 2024 auction.
