Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli is poised to break Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes during the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Virat Kohli will become the first cricketer to achieve this milestone in the Indian Premier League history.

The Bengaluru-based franchise will face the Shreyas Iyer-led team in their next match at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, on Friday, March 29. Both teams are coming off victories in their previous matches in the ongoing marquee tournament.

Virat Kohli Needs 3 Sixes To Create History In IPL

During the high-voltage match between two formidable teams, Virat Kohli has an opportunity to make history. The 35-year-old batter needs just three sixes to become the first-ever cricketer to achieve 240 or more sixes for a single franchise in the cash-rich league.

The former RCB skipper has hammered 237 sixes in 239 IPL matches. With just three more, he will surpass Chris Gayle’s record of 239 sixes for the Bengaluru-based franchise.

Chris Gayle leads the batting charts with 239 sixes in 85 IPL matches for RCB, while South African stalwart AB de Villiers closely trails with 238 sixes in 156 matches in the event.

Position Player Team Matches Runs Best Score Sixes
1 Chris Gayle RCB 85 3163 175* 239
2 AB de Villiers RCB 156 4491 133* 238
3 Virat Kohli RCB 239 7361 113 237

5 Rohit Sharma Mumbai Indians 200 5110 109* 210

As of now, only six players, including Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Kohli, Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni, have achieved the milestone of hitting 200 or more sixes for a single team in the IPL.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, who has been a member of KKR since the 2014 season, aims to achieve the milestone by hitting three more sixes. With 197 maximums in 106 IPL matches for KKR, he stands on the brink of joining an elite list of players.

Russell is also on the verge of reaching 100 wickets in the IPL for KKR. He requires just three more wickets to join the esteemed list of bowlers in the league’s history. Upon achieving this milestone, he will become the 10th bowler to do so in the cash-rich league.

My Name Is Often Used To Just Promote The T20 Game – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli silenced his critics with a match-winning performance for RCB against PBKS in an IPL 2024 clash. Kohli emphasized the importance of adaptability in T20 cricket, especially when wickets fall.

“I know my name is often used to just promote the T20 game across the world when it comes to T20 cricket these days but still got it I guess,” Kohli said in the post-match show.

“In T20, I’m opening, I try to give the team a blazing start. But when wickets start falling, you have to understand the conditions as well. You have to come up with a game plan and keep improving,” he added.

As the top run-scorer in the T20 league, the right-handed batter has amassed 7361 runs in 239 games, including seven centuries and 51 half-centuries. He was retained by the Bengaluru-based franchise for Rs 15 crore ahead of the 2024 season.
