Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batsman Virat Kohli scored the first century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Pakistani cricketer Ahmad Shahzad praised Virat Kohli, addressing trolls who questioned the former RCB captain's batting in T20s.

Virat Kohli's 8th IPL century couldn't secure a win for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as they suffered a 6-wicket loss at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, April 6. This defeat marks the RCB team's fourth loss out of five matches in the ongoing season.

You Are Thinking Virat Kohli Is Done - Ahmad Shahzad

Following recent reports questioning Virat Kohli's selection in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, his impressive performance rallied support for the batting legend. The upcoming ICC tournament is set to be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies from June 2 to 29 this year.

Kohli was criticized for his knock, which is one of the slowest centuries in IPL history, leading to questions about the former India captain's batting pace. Despite this, Ahmad Shahzad voiced support for Kohli, urging the BCCI to carefully consider his selection for the T20 World Cup.

"And you are thinking Virat Kohli is done. Think wisely @BCCI," Shahzad tweeted after the RCB innings.

The 35-year-old batter reached his half-century milestone in 39 balls after being asked to bat first. He added 125 runs in partnership with Faf du Plessis, who scored 44 runs off 33 balls for the first wicket. Kohli reached his next milestone in just 28 balls, in the penultimate over.

Kohli reached his century milestone in 67 balls, marking one of the slowest centuries in IPL history. He remained unbeaten on 113 runs off 72 deliveries, which included 13 fours and four sixes. Despite his knock, RCB posted a below-par total of 183 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma Said We Need Virat Kohli At Any Cost - Kirti Azad

Last month, former India all-rounder Kirti Azad refuted these claims in a social media post amid speculation about Kohli's exclusion from India's T20 World Cup squad. Azad asserted that captain Rohit Sharma had emphasized the necessity of Kohli's presence in the team.

Virat Kohli is the top scorer in IPL 2024, amassing 316 runs at an average of 105.33 and a strike rate of 146.30. As the 35-year-old maintains his stellar form, anticipation grows for his role in India's T20 World Cup squad, which is expected to be announced by the end of April.
