Former India seamer Praveen Kumar has picked Indian skipper Rohit Sharma over former captain Virat Kohli in terms of the most dangerous batter to face as a bowler. The former swing bowler recently sat with renowned journalist Shubhankar Mishra for a podcast where Kumar was asked about various different things with one of them being the comparison between Rohit and Kohli.

Praveen Kumar has played together with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during his time as an international cricketer. He has good experience of bowling against the legendary duo who are currently two of the most senior players of the Indian national team. At the moment, both of them are gearing up for the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League which starts on March 22nd with a clash between CSK and RCB.

Praveen Kumar says Rohit Sharma really has that extra time to play

Shubhankar Mishra asked a very simple question as to whom he thinks is a more dangerous batter to bowl to. “Who do you think is tougher as a batter to bowl according to you?”

To that Praveen Kumar immediately came up with the answer, “Rohit Sharma”. Upon being asked to describe the reason for his answer, the Meerut-born stated he plays quite late before taking another pause for a few more seconds and then describing the differentiator between Virat Kohli and Rohit.

Kumar stated that he has bowled against Kohli many times in domestic cricket where he felt that the latter was easy to decode or catch before tracking back and saying not anymore. Then he explained that Rohit Sharma did have that extra time and that he had caught him a couple of times.

“I have bowled a lot against Virat in domestic cricket. You can catch Virat. At that time you could but it’s difficult now. You can catch Rohit too, as a bowler I can, in fact I have also but according to me it is Rohit Sharma,” Praveen Kumar told Shubhankar Mishra.

With a leisurely grace and a captivating flair, Rohit Sharma effortlessly mastered every stroke imaginable as he rose from the outskirts of Mumbai to assume the mantle of the next Indian batting legend during the 2000s. Though his ascent required patience and unwavering dedication, by the 2010s he had evolved into an indomitable force in limited-overs cricket, commanding the helm of arguably the most formidable franchise in the inaugural era of T20 cricket.

Rohit Sharma was a part of the Indian team under the leadership of MS Dhoni that won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007. 2 years later he grabbed hold of his first IPL title as a player with Deccan Chargers before scripting history with Mumbai Indians in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

This year, Rohit Sharma will not be captaining the Mumbai Indians for the first time since 2013 with Hardik Pandya currently at the helm.
