Cricketer-turned-commentator Virender Sehwag feels Rishabh Pant should have scored an unbeaten century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous game of IPL 2024. Virender Sehwag reckoned as Delhi Capitals were already going to lose the game, Rishabh Pant should have remained not-out on the crease and done some batting practice instead of his quickfire knock.

Rishabh Pant slammed a quickfire 55 off 25 balls with 4 boundaries and 5 sixes in DC vs KKR clash of IPL 2024 on Wednesday, April 3. Although his spectacular knock sent the crowd into a frenzy, Delhi Capitals lost the match by 106 runs.

Notably, Delhi had almost no chance of winning the game. In the 1st innings, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stormed DC bowlers all over the park to post a gigantic total of 272-7. It was IPL's second-highest team total after Sunrisers Hyderabad's 277, which SRH piled up in an earlier game.

Rishabh Pant should’ve hit unbeaten century vs KKR- Virender Sehwag

Speaking to Cricbuzz, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said Rishabh Pant should have remained unbeaten with a century in DC vs KKR clash instead of his blistering knock.

“Yes, it was good (referring to Pant’s innings). But you didn't score much in the first two games, and now, when you're scoring runs, you are giving your wicket away. You should have stayed, reached a century, and remained unbeaten on 110 or 120. Because runs dry pretty fast. His batting was good, he has come back to form and is scoring at a brilliant strike rate," Sehwag said.

Sehwag noted Delhi Capitals had no chance of winning the game. Hence, it was a good idea for Rishabh Pant to bat deep and undergo some batting practice during the match.

"Today, we knew from the very first over that Delhi Capitals weren't going to win. This was the time to do some batting practice. Instead of going to nets now, you could've played 20 extra deliveries here. Then you could've probably skipped practice overall and returned in the next match straightaway,” Sehwag further added.

Rishabh Pant slammed half-centuries in last two games

Rishabh Pant failed to score good knocks in the first two games. The left-handed batter got out for 18 and 28 against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively. However, the DC skipper set the stage on fire in the last two games, hitting fifties in both encounters. Pant slammed 51 against Chennai Super Kings and 55 vs Kolkata Knight Riders.

In four games, the wicketkeeper batter accounts for 152 runs at 38.0 average. He also has a stunning strike rate of 158+. Pant is the leading run-getter for his team. However, Delhi Capitals has struggled to come up with a good show in IPL 2024. The team has lost 3 games out of 4 and won only 1. With 2 points, they are stationed in the 9th spot in the points table.
