It was a memorable day for Hardik Pandya on Sunday, April 7, when he tasted his first victory as Mumbai Indians skipper. After the victory, Rohit Sharma congratulated Hardik Pandya on the field, setting aside the rumors of conflicts between the duo. Mumbai Indians outplayed Delhi Capitals by 29 runs to capture their first two points in IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians showcased their batting might in the MI vs DC clash at Wankhede, setting up a mountainous total of 234-5 in 1st innings. Rohit Sharma (49) and Ishan Kishan (42) gave a stunning start to the batting as opener, adding 80 runs in 7 overs. Later, Hardik Pandya added 39 off 33.
Overseas duo Tim David and Romaria Shepherd gave an impeccable finish to MI's batting. Sharing 8 sixes and 5 boundaries between them, they drove the scoreboard to 234-5 in 20 overs. While Tim David shattered an unbeaten 45 off 21, Romario Shepherd slammed a blistering 10-ball-39.

Everyone believed we needed just one win: Hardik Pandya after the victory
During the post-match presentation, Hardik Pandya expressed his happiness for winning the first game for Mumbai under his leadership. He also revealed that they would have the same combination for the rest of the tournament.
"It was a lot of hard work. We had to clear our minds and make sure that we believed. We will be making tactical changes here and there but this will be our 12 and settling our team now is important. There's a lot of love and care going around in the changeroom. Belief and backing each other is the attitude out there. Everyone believed we need just one win”, the all-rounder said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals showed some good efforts during the chase but were helpless against a gigantic target. Opener Prithvi Shaw slammed 66 runs at the start. Abishek Porel (41 off 31) and Tristan Stubbs (71*) slammed quickfire knocks. However, reaching 205-8 in 20 overs, Rishabh Pant & Co. faced their 4th defeat of IPL 2024.
Delhi Capitals have lost 4 games and won 1 out of 5 in IPL 2024. They moved to the last spot in the points table after the loss to Mumbai. On the other hand, the men-in-blue takes 8th place in the points table with 3 defeats and 1 victory across 4 matches.
