Shubman Gill, on Thursday (April 4), led Gujarat Titans from the very front against Punjab Kings in the 18th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and opted to bowl first. GT were off to a shaky start as Wriddhiman Saha was out for just 11. Kane Williamson (26) and Sai Sudharsan (33) got the starts but could not capitalise on them. However, Shubman Gill stood firm at one end and played a brilliant knock to guide his team to a big total of 199/4 in the allotted 20 overs.
He remained till the end to make sure his team ended up with a good total. Shubman Gill, who is leading an IPL team for the first time in his career, remained unbeaten on 89. His knock came off 48 balls and was studded with six fours and four sixes. During his knock, Shubman Gill played some glorious shots but the best of the lot is definitely the one he played against Kagiso Rabada for a four.
On the second ball of the 18th over, the Titans skipper came up with a 'tennis shot' to hit the ball straight down the ground for a four. It was a short ball from Rabada and the South Africa pacer did well to not give any room to the well-set Titans skipper. However, Shubman Gill still ended up hitting it for a four by bringing out a flat-batted forehand.

Talking about Shubman Gill's performance in the ongoing IPL, the fifty against PBKS is his first of the season. He got the starts in the previous games but could not convert them into big scores. In the first game against Mumbai Indians, the India opener scored 31 before being dismissed for 8 against Chennai Super Kings.
In the third game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was out for 36. Coming to the ongoing game, PBKS were on 77 for 4 in the tenth over at the time of writing this report.
