Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan shared a warm moment on the field after the game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday night (March 25).

Incidentally, both the veteran batters top-scored for their respective teams. However, Shikhar Dhawan’s knock went in vain as Virat Kohli inspired RCB to a thrilling four-wicket win over the Punjab-based outfit. The win was RCB’s first of the season while it was the first defeat for PBKS in IPL 2024.

Asked to bat first, PBKS posted a competitive total of 176 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Dhawan scored 45 runs off 37 balls with the help of 5 fours and a six. No other PBKS batter could even touch the 30-run mark. For RCB, Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell picked up two wickets apiece.

With the bat, RCB chased down the total with four balls remaining. While the likes of Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, Rajat Patidar, and Glenn Maxwell failed to deliver with the bat, Virat Kohli stood firm at one end and scored 77 runs to keep his team in the hunt. Towards the end, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror’s fine cameos helped RCB open their account in IPL 2024.

After the game ended, a brilliant heartwarming scene was witnessed between Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. The former India skipper could be seen hugging the PBKS captain and consoling him before both of them started joking with each other.

While the reason behind Kohli cheering up Dhawan is not known, many believe that it could be due to the latter not being able to see his son. Dhawan’s son lives in Australia with his ex-wife Ayesha Mukherjee. In October last year, a Delhi court had granted divorce to the Indian batter.

Kohli and Dhawan’s friendship goes a long way back. Both the players plied their trade for the Delhi state team together before making it big in international cricket. Time and again, they have expressed their admiration for each other and the latest incident only shows the strong bond between them.
