Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli entertained the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 opening clash with his quirky dance moves to a song from Thalapathy Vijay’s movie.

Kohli is making his comeback to competitive cricket after an absence of 2 months. Before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 curtain raiser, the batting superstar was seen in action in the three-match T20I series against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. He made his return to the T20I format for India National Cricket Team in the series against Afghans, which many felt was a hint at his selection in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

After the T20I series against Afghanistan, Virat Kohli was expected to participate in the five-match Test series against England National Cricket Team. First, Kohli pulled out of the first two Tests of the series before making himself unavailable for the entirety of the series.

The reason behind his absence from the England Tests was revealed by Kohli himself. He took to social media platforms to announce that he and Anushka Sharma were blessed with a baby boy – Akaay, hence, he was out of action to spend time with his family.

Meaning, Virat Kohli opened the innings with Faf du Plessis in the IPL 2024 opener and was part of a brilliant partnership while contributing very less. In the partnership of 41 runs in 27 balls, Virat Kohli contributed just 3 runs off 4 balls.

After losing his partner, Virat Kohli couldn’t keep going and was dismissed at the score of 21 runs off 20 balls, courtesy of Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra’s exceptional relay catch.

When it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s turn to field, Virat Kohli was fully charged up. He was in typical fun and aggressive mood and was seen having a go at the CSK players, even giving a foul-mouthed send-off to Rachin Ravindra.

Amid the intense match, Virat Kohli showed his fun side to the Chepauk crowd and entertained them. Kohli was seen doing quirky dance moves to a Thalapathy Vijay’s movie’s song.

Talking about Virat Kohli’s innings on air, Steve Smith said that the batting stalwart was looking to find a rhythm, which he couldn’t get.

“It’s bizarre. Virat Kohli only faced six balls in the powerplay after playing the first ball. Kohli faced a really difficult situation there, losing 3 wickets pretty quickly. He tried to rebuild with Cameron Green and got out at the wrong time,” Steve Smith said while commentating for the broadcaster. “He was looking to find his rhythm early on and I think he looks in good form,” Steve Smith added.

Ravi Shastri, meanwhile, was of the opinion that Virat Kohli was rusty as he was out of competitive cricket for quite some time now.

“It will take time when you are out of the game for that long, no matter how long you bat in the nets. You need some match time. I imagine that he was a bit rusty and just when he got going he was dismissed by a good catch in the boundary,” Ravi Shastri said while speaking on the same panel. “I think just the time he spent in the crease today will stand him in good stead,” concluded Shastri.
