Royal Challengers Bangalore stars including Virat Kohli landed in Chennai on Tuesday (March 19) night for the highly-anticipated clash against Chennai Super Kings. RCB and CSK will lock horns against each other in the mouth-watering first game of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).

The highly-awaited match is scheduled to take place on Friday (March 22). The match will also mark the return of Virat Kohli to action. The former India skipper has not played a competitive game since the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in January.

He was named in the squad for the first two Tests of the five-match series against England. However, he decided to withdraw from the entire series to be with his wife Anushka Sharma who gave birth to the couple’s second child – son Akaay – last month.

Virat Kohli will be looking to hit the ground running on his return and help RCB make a solid start to their campaign. A win over the reigning champions in the very first game of the tournament will give RCB’s confidence a world of good. However, it won’t be an easy task for the Bengaluru-based outfit. Not only do they need to beat the reigning champions but they will have to do it in their backyard.

While only time will tell how things unfold in Chennai for RCB, one can say that Virat Kohli is set to receive big support from the fans after the way he was welcomed to the city on Tuesday. The former RCB skipper received a hero’s welcome in MS Dhoni’s den as dozens of fans lined up outside the airport and chanted his name.

Virat Kohli eyes a historic season:

Virat Kohli would be desperate to help RCB win their first IPL title this year. RCB are one of the only three teams who have been playing in the IPL from the very first season but are yet to win the tournament. In the last edition, they could not even make it to the playoffs and will be looking to go all the way this year to clinch a historic title.

“Hopefully we can double it up with the trophies. That’ll be something truly special. I am always going to be here, trying to be part of the group that wins it for the first time. I will try my best with my ability and experience to do it for the fans and the franchise. It is a dream of mine as well to know what it feels like to win the IPL,” Virat Kohli said at the RCB unboxing event while praising the women’s team for winning the WPL.
