MS Dhoni is one of India's most decorated cricketers of all time. The former India cricketer made a huge impact not only as a wicketkeeper-batsman but also as a captain.
When Dhoni made his debut in international cricket in 2004, the wicket keepers were just expected to be good behind the stumps and make handy contributions with the bat.
However, Dhoni completely revolutionized the role with his stunning displays with the bat.
He scored more than 15000 runs across formats and bowed out of the game as one of the most decorated wicketkeeper-batters of all time. He made a similar impact in the IPL as well by leading Chennai Super Kings to 5 titles.
MS Dhoni's Father:
MS Dhoni was born to Pan Singh and Devaki Devi. MS Dhoni's father worked at Ranchi MECON, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Steel while his mother was a homemaker.
Pan Singh Dhoni:
Pan Singh Dhoni is a native of Uttarakhand. Dhoni's ancestral family resided in the Lawali village of Uttarakhand's Almora district.
He is married to Devaki Devi who is a homemaker. Apart from Dhoni, Pan Singh Dhoni is a father to two other children too, a son Narendra, and a daughter Jayanti. Dhoni is the youngest of the three siblings.
Pan Singh Dhoni immigrated to Ranchi in the 1970s to work in MECON, a public sector enterprise under the Indian government's Ministry of Steel. MS Dhoni's father used to work in a junior management position.
MS Dhoni's Bond With His Father:
MS Dhoni's father initially did not want his son to pursue cricket and wanted him to focus on academics. Pan Singh Dhoni wanted his youngest son to get a government job.
Even when Dhoni was selected to play for the school cricket team, his father opposed it, thinking that it would hamper his son's studies.
However, Dhoni's mother and his elder sister supported him and Pan Singh eventually softened up.
With his father finally supporting him, Dhoni went on to not only bag a government job but also make it big in the game. Before making his debut for Team India, Dhoni was working as a ticket collector in Indian Railways.
Dhoni was hesitant to join the Railways as he wanted to focus solely on cricket. However, he eventually decided to accept the offer for his father.
And even though Dhoni had a pretty stable life, he never gave up on cricket. He eventually let the railways duty for cricket and managed to convince his father to give him one more year.
Dhoni's father agreed and he went on to make him proud. Dhoni finally made his debut for Team India in 2004 and did not look back after that.
Reports suggest that Pan Singh Dhoni becomes emotional each time he sees the theatrical trailer of 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story,' the biopic that was released in 2016.
Even though Dhoni's father initially did not support him, Dhoni never shied away from crediting his father for his career. The former India skipper once revealed how his father's discipline shaped his life.
"When I was young, I was closer to my mother. But when I was in Class 12, the reason for my father’s reference to discipline became clear to me," Dhoni had said in an interview.
