Pakistan Super League 2024
The Pakistan Super League or the PSL is Pakistan's premier franchise T20 competition. Six city-based franchises participate in the tournament. After the success of several T20 leagues around the world such as the IPL and the BBL, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also decided to join the bandwagon.
At present, the PSL is one of the leading T20 leagues in the world and Cricket Addictor is your one-stop destination for information about the competition. We provide exclusive first-hand coverage of all the latest PSL news, PSL schedule, and other details.
In 2015, the PCB founded the league even though international cricket had yet to return to Pakistan. Pakistan were playing their home games in the UAE at that time but it did not stop the PCB from going ahead with its plans of starting the PSL.
The PCB announced the launch of the competition in September 2015. In February 2016, the first season of the PSL was played. In the first two seasons of the competition, five teams participated. The teams were based in the capital cities of Pakistan's provinces and the Federal capital.
The PCB does not hold any auction but a player's draft for recruiting players. From the third edition in 2018, a sixth team was added to the league. Since then, six teams have been playing in the PSL. As per the PSL team list, the current teams are - Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
The first season of the league was played entirely in the UAE due to security reasons. The second season was also held in the UAE except the final which was played in Lahore. In the third season, the entire league of the PSL as well as the first qualifier were staged in UAE but the remaining two playoffs and the final were played in Pakistan.
More games were played in Pakistan in the fourth season of PSL. While the tournament started in UAE, the last eight games including the entire playoffs and the final were played in Pakistan. In 2020, the entire PSL was held in Pakistan for the first time and since then, the tournament has only been staged in the same country.
