Hashim Amla is one of the best batsmen to ever play cricket for South Africa and international cricket. During the most part of his international career, he was ranked as the top ICC batsman and even broke many records of Virat Kohli for fastest tons.
The right-handed batsman used to play as an opener and went on to play more than 100 ODIs and 100 T20Is for the national team. He made his debut in 2004 and went on to play for South Africa till 2019.
Family and Personal Life
Hashim Amla was born on March 31, 1983 in Durban City in South Africa to Mohomed Amla. He grew up with his brother and sister. He started his earlier cricket career under coach Hylton Ackerman.
Early and Domestic Career
In 1999, Hashim Amla was part of the KwaZulu-Natal team, a state team in South Africa. He also played for English county clubs like Nottinghamshire, Hampshire, and Surrey, but played only a single season for each club.
International Career
In 2004, Hashim Amla finally made his debut for South Africa in a Test match against India. He went on to play for the side till 2018. In 2019, Amla announced his retirement from all forms of cricket due to South Africa's poor show in the ODI World Cup that year.
Over the course of 15 years, Hashim Amla played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for the side. He went on to smack 9282 runs in the longest format, 8113 runs in ODIs, and 1277 runs in T20Is.
Interestingly, he became the fastest player to grab many milestones in ODIs like 3000 runs in 59 innings, 4000 runs in 81 innings, 5000 runs in 101 innings, 6000 runs in 123 innings, and 7000 runs in 150 innings.
Franchise Career
Hashim Amla was less active in the Indian Premier League, however, he is not known for a fabulous IPL career like his T20I career. The right-hander was part of Kings XI Punjab in the 2016 and 2017 seasons- the only ones he played in the IPL. Across 2 seasons, he played 16 games and 577 runs in 577 runs at 44+ average and 141+ strike rate.
