“One of the best Test pacers for India”- Ishant Sharma can best justified with these words. Ishant Sharma is one of the few Indian pacers to play over 100 Tests for the country. He was known for his tall physique and pace attack.
Ishant Sharma is a right-arm pacer. Although he does not get opportunities in the national team, he is still active in IPL. Sharma was part of Team India in the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21 and also played in the final.
The right-arm pacer also played for Team India in other crucial tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and Asia Cup 2008. He also played a handful of T20I games for Team India but was widely known for his Test dominance.
Early Life and Career
Ishant Sharma was born on September 2, 1988 in Delhi. He practiced under his childhood coach Shravan Kumar. He grew up in Delhi with his only sister Eva Sharma.
In 2006, he became a member of the Delhi domestic team. Next year in 2007, he made his international debut. Later, he cemented his place in the national team. Towards the end of his international career, he was a regular member of Tests but did not play in the limited-overs format.
International Career
After impressive performances in the domestic circuit and India's junior team, Ishant Sharma made his international debut in 2007 with an ODI against Australia. In the same year, he also made his Test debut against Bangladesh.
However, the right-arm pacer had to wait for a few years to make his T20I debut. He played his first T20I in 2013 but only played a total of 14 T20I games in his entire career.
From 2016 onwards, Sharma was a crucial pacer for Team India in Tests. For the next few years, he was a permanent pacer in the Test team and also played in the ICC World Test Championship 2021 final. However, after the tournament, he gradually lost his place in the national team.
IPL Career
Ishant Sharma has been part of IPL since his debut season in 2008 and is still active in the league. From IPL 2008 to 2010, he was part of Kolkata Knight Riders. He switched to Deccan Chargers from 2011 to 2012.
Later, he was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2013 to 2015. He played for Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and Punjab Kings in 2017. Since the 2019 season, he has been part of Delhi Capitals.
Sharma has played more than 75 games in the IPL so far and will soon reach his 100 wickets in the IPL. His most successful season was IPL 2013 when he picked 15 wickets. For the last two seasons, he has been a crucial member of the Delhi Capitals franchise.
