Sarfaraz Khan is a spectacular batsman who did not give up on his dreams of playing for India. The right-handed batsman made his international debut in 2023 during the India vs England Test series. Sarfaraz Khan also has a lot of IPL experience.
Sarfaraz Khan is a right-handed batsman who plays in the middle-order. He also bowls leg spin but is majorly known for his batting might. He can also keep the stumps and owns the profile of wicketkeeper-batsman. Since 2013, he has played for the Mumbai Team regularly in the domestic circuit.
Early Life and Career
Sarfaraz Khan was born and brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra on October 22, 1996. His father Naushad Khan was his childhood coach while his mother Tabassum Khan was a housewife. He grew up with his two brothers and spent most of his time in cricket practice.
After breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record in Harris Shield with his 439, Sarfaraz Khan came into the limelight in 2009. Later, he was picked by the Mumbai Under-19 team, leading the way for his entry into the India Under-19 side.
However, he continued to play in the Ranji team and had to wait for his national call-up. The right-handed batsman was also in and out of IPL teams but could not get a chance to play for Team India until 2023.
International Career
Sarafraz Khan made his Test debut in the India vs England Test series in 2023. He played in three matches and added 200 runs in 5 innings with three half-centuries, showcasing a magnificent performance.
He has proven himself to be a reliable middle-order batsman for India. He looks like a promising batter for Team India in the longest format in the future.
Notably, he shattered 3 consecutive tons in the Ranji Trophy 2023 season and made a lot of headlines for his national call. However, he failed to get the selectors' nod ahead of the ICC WTC final in 2023. Later, he made his debut in the series against England in 2024.
IPL Career
Royal Challengers Bangalore gave a break to Sarfaraz Khan in the IPL 2015 season and he also grabbed the limelight with a few performances. He played for the team till the 2018 season and was picked by Punjab Kings from 2019 to 2021.
Delhi Capitals grabbed him in the IPL 2022 mega auction and he has been associated with the franchise since then. So far, Sarfaraz Khan has played 50 games in IPL but has failed to grab the limelight with just one IPL fifty. He was in and out of the Delhi Capitals side in the 2023 season.
