Fast and Furious- perhaps these words define the legacy of Shoaib Akhtar in international cricket. Shoaib Akhtar is the fastest bowler to ever play for Pakistan and one of the dangerous ones who dominated the opposition batters like a lion in a Jungle.
Shoaib Akhtar is a former Pakistan cricketer who was a right-arm-pacer and right-handed batsman. He played for Pakistan from 1997 to 2011. He is regarded as one of the bowling legends for Pakistan and is also an active commentator and cricket expert.
Family and Personal Life
Shoaib Akhtar was born on 13 August 1975 in Murga City in Rawalpindi, Pakistan to Mohammad Akhtar and Hamida Awan. He grew up with his four brothers Shahid, Tahir, and Obaid, and his only sister Shumaila.
Akhtar married Rubab Khan in June 2014 and the couple has a son. His hobbies in childhood include singing, listening to songs, and watching Hindi films.
Early and Domestic Career
Shoaib Akhtar was part of the Rawalpindi Domestic Team since his young days and played for the same side till his retirement. However, he was a regular member of the national side during his active career and gave less focus to the domestic team.
International Career
Shoaib Akhtar made his international debut against West Indies in a Test match in November 1997. He continued to play till 2011 against New Zealand. Notably, Akhtar had to stop his international career due to an injury.
Shoaib Akhtar played 46 Tests during his career and grabbed 178 wickets at an average of 25 +. In 163 ODIs for Pakistan, the right-arm pacer got 247 wickets at an average of 24.98. In 15 T20Is, he grabbed 19 wickets averaging 22.74
Franchise Career
Interestingly, Shoaib Akhtar was quite active in IPL and played in the debut season in 2008 for Kolkata Knight Riders. He got five wickets in three matches with the four-wicket haul in a match, winning the player of the match award. Since he could not play after 2011, he was not able to participate in different franchise T20 leagues that started after his career.
