Umar Gul is one of the finest pacers to ever play for Pakistan and was a regular member of the team during his active career. Umar Gul was one of the special players who played for Pakistan in all three formats Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
Umar Gul was a right-arm pacer who played for Pakistan from 2003 to 2016. He was a 6-foot-tall pacer and was a regular member of the side during his active career.
Family and Personal Life
Umar Gul was born on October 15, 1982, in Peshawar State of Pakistan. He has kept a lot of things secret about his family as it was considered sacred in his Pushtun culture. There is no information on whether he had some siblings but his friends encouraged him to become a cricketer.
He married a Dubai-based doctor in 2010 and did not reveal the name of his wife to the media as it was against his culture. He has three daughters and one son. The name of his son Rehab Umar.
Early and Domestic Career
He started his career in 2001 for the Domestic Team Pakistan International Airlines. He played for domestic teams like Peshawar and Habib Bank Limited too. He also played for Domestic Cricket in other countries. Umar Gul was part of Western Australia and Sussex. Just after 2 years, he got a break into a Pakistan national team in 2003.
International Career-
Umar Gul played for the Pakistan team from 2003 to 2016. He made his international debut in an ODI match against Zimbabwe in April 2003. He played his last game against New Zealand in September 2016 in an ODI match. During his career, Umar Gul played 47 Tests, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is matches.
He grabbed 163 wickets at an average of 34+ in ODIs, he captured 179 wickets at an average of 29+ in T20Is, he captured 85 wickets at an average of 16+.
Franchise Career
Umar Gul was part of the Indian Premier League season 2008 and played 6 games for Kolkata Knight Riders. He picked four-wicket haul in one match and took a total of 12 wickets at an economy of 8.18 and a wonderful average of 15.33.
However, since Pakistan players were not allowed in the Indian Premier League's upcoming seasons, Umar Gul could not follow up his career.
However, he was quite active in the Pakistan Super League where he played for teams like Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultan. He played his last franchise season in 2018 in Pakistan Super League.
