Wahab Riaz is a former Pakistani cricketer who has played many match-winning games for the national team. Wahab Riaz retired from international cricket in 2023 but was quite an active player throughout his international career.
Wahab Riaz is a former left-arm pacer who played for Pakistan from 2008 to 2020. At his peak, he was the most crucial pacer for Pakistan team. His 5-wicket haul against India in ICC ODI World Cup 2011 is remembered by fans of both countries.
Wahab Riaz was born on June 28, 1985 in Lahore City in Punjab. His father Muhammad Sikandar Riaz Kasana was a big businessman. He married Zaibab Chowdhary and the couple has a daughter named Eshal. Interestingly, Riaz has a master's degree.
Early and domestic career
Wahab Riaz underwent childhood coaching with coach Aaqib Javed. The left-arm pacer joined the Lahore Team in 2001 and remained part of the same team in the domestic circuit till 2019. He also played two seasons for Punjab (2006 and 2007).
International Career
Wahab Riaz made his international debut in an ODI match against Zimbabwe in February 2008. He went on to play 27 Tests and 91 ODIs for Pakistan. The left-arm grabbed 83 scalps in Tests at an average of 34.50. In 91 ODIs, he picked 120 wickets at an average of 34.40.
Franchise Career
Wahab Riaz did not play in the debut edition of IPL even though he made his debut in the same year. However, he was part of Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League from 2016 to 2018 edition.
He also played for Barbados Tridents in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. In 2023, he retired from international cricket. However, he is still active in the leagues for retired players.
