If we prepare the list of dominant pacers who ever played for Team India since 2000, then there is no doubt that Zaheer Khan will top the list. Zaheer Khan is a former Indian pacer who played for India in the first decade of the 21st century and was the most crucial pacer for captains like MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid

Zaheer Khan was a left-arm pacer who is an active commentator now. He was part of the Indian team that won the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 under skipper MS Dhoni. Notably, Zaheer Khan was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

Zaheer Khan will always be remembered for his calm nature on the field but a dangerous attack in the opening overs. Notably, he was the opening bowler for Team India from 2000 to 2014 and was the most consistent pacer for the side.

Family and Personal Life

Zaheer Khan was born in October 1978 in Maharashtra to Bakhtyar Khan and Zakia Khan in a Marathi Muslim family. He grew up with two brothers-  Zeeshan Khan and Anees Khan. He tied the knot with Bollywood actress Sagarika Ghatge in November 2017.

Zaheer Khan was trained by coaches like Vidyadhar Paradkar, Sudhir Naik, and TA Sekhar in his early career. He made his entry into the domestic circuit in 1999 while playing for Baroda. However, he later joined the Mumbai team in 2006 and represented the side till 2016.

International Career

Zaheer Khan entered domestic cricket in 2000 and made his international debut a year later. The left-arm pacer made his international debut in October 2000 and played for India till 2014.

He played 92 Tests from 2000 to 2014 and picked 311 wickets at an average of 32+. He also played 200 ODI games from October 2000 to 2012 and held a stunning record by getting 282 wickets at an average of 29+. He only featured in 17 games for India and got 17 scalps.

IPL Career

Although Zaheer Khan played a handful of T20I games for India, he was highly active in the Indian Premier League by playing a total of 100 games. He scalped 102 wickets at an economy of 7.59.

He joined Royal Challengers Bangalore in his debut season in 2008. Later, he also played for Mumbai Indians (2009, 2010, 2017), and Delhi Daredevils (2015-2017). He represented only these three teams during his IPL career.
