Lahore Qalandars face-off Islamabad United in the 12th match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 on Sunday at National Stadium in Karachi. Lahore Qalandars are in pretty good form at the moment.

They are coming into this encounter on the back of two consecutive wins. Lahore Qalandars had the better of Peshawar Zalmi in the last game, winning it by 29 runs. Fakhar Zaman, yet again, played a brilliant knock of 66 runs in 38 deliveries, including 6 fours and 3 sixes.

The good thing was that the other batsmen too made vital contributions. Opener Shafique played a handy knock of 41 runs in 31 balls. Besides, Kamran Ghulam scored 30 off 23, while M Hafeez stayed unbeaten on 37 off 19 balls. As a result of all those contributions, Lahore Qalandars managed to post a formidable score of 199 runs in the first innings.

In reply, Peshwar Zalmi were restricted to 170 in the second innings. Lahore Qalandars kept picking wickets at regular intervals and denied the opposition of stitching big partnerships. Zaman Khan was brilliant with the ball as he picked the crucial wickets of Kamran Akmal, Sherfane Rutherford, and Hussain Talat. Shaheen Afridi also was brilliant during his four-over spell. He returned with figures of 2 for 19 in 4 overs.

Islamabad United, on the other hand, have one win and one defeat to their name. At the time of writing, Islamabad United have 2 points to their name in 2 matches. They have two games lined-up in the space of three days. On Saturday, they will be playing against Lahore Qalandars and would be aiming to win that one.

The top-four batsmen, namely Alex Hales, Paul Sterling, R Gurbaz and Shadab Khan are in sensational form. All four batsmen are amongst the runs and that should keep the team in good stead. Alex Hales and Paul Sterling wreaked havoc with the bat in the first game, while Shadab Khan played a sensational knock in the second match.

The bowling, however, had a tough day at the office against Multan Sultans. All the bowlers went for plenty of runs barring Shadab Khan. Hasan Ali, the leader of the pack, conceded 52 runs in four overs with one wicket to his name. Besides, the likes of Faheem Ashraf (0 for 47) and M Wasim Jr. (1 for 39) also failed to impress.

South African paceman, Merchant de Lange has had poor outings in both games and this is one big concern for the team. It will be interesting to see if they put faith in his abilities in the next game on Thursday.
