Multan Sultans face off Lahore Qalandars in the third match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 on Saturday at National Stadium in Karachi. Multan Sultans have made a perfect start to the tournament, having won the first game by 7 wickets against Karachi Kings on Thursday.

Multan Sultans restricted Karachi Kings to 124 runs in the first innings. Imran Tahir starred with the ball as he picked 3 for 16 in 4 overs. Tahir didn’t let Karachi Kings build big partnerships and, thus, Karachi Kings were restricted to a below-par score. S Dahani and Khushdil Shah combined to pick 2 for 22 in 5 overs.

The Sultans chased down the score in 18.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Shan Masood helped the team get to a solid start as he scored 26 runs in 18 deliveries. He, however, failed to convert the start into a big score.

M Rizwan, however, stayed unbeaten till the end and managed to score a match-winning half-century in his first match of the tournament. Besides, Sohaib Maqsood also made a valuable contribution of 30 off 31 deliveries, including 2 sixes.

Ahead of their next game on Saturday, Multan Sultans would look to carry on the winning momentum. Facing them are Lahore Qalandars, who will be playing their first game of the tournament. Shaheen Afridi has been appointed as their new skipper. He has taken over the captaincy duties from Sohail Khan.

Much like the last year, bowling will be their strongest suit. In Shaheen Shah Afridi, Harris Rauf and Rashid Khan, they have got three of the best bowlers in the shortest format of the game.

As for the batting, the team would be banking on the likes of M Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, Ben Dunk and Sohail Akhtar to name a few. As compared to the other franchises, there aren’t lot of match-winners with the bat, but they have got enough depth in the batting unit.

The presence of David Wiese, Samit Patel and Rashid Khan should keep them in good stead. Lahore Qalandars failed to reach the playoffs last year. It will be interesting to see how they fare this time around.

The pitch here at National Stadium is usually good for the batting. The teams batting first usually tend to score big totals on the board. However, Karachi Kings could only manage to score 124 runs in the last game.

However, one can argue that this didn’t bat too well. We are predicting that both teams are likely to post anything above 150. The ball does come on too nicely to the bat here and both teams would look to bowl first after winning the toss.
