The ninth match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 will be played between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars at National Stadium in Karachi. Both have got the same number of points so far.

Peshawar are sitting at second from the bottom of the table with one win and a defeat to their name. Peshawar Zalmi suffered a humiliating 9-wicket defeat at the hands of Islamabad United in their last game.

Despite being reduced to 35 for 4, Peshawar Zalmi did exceedingly well to post a competitive score of 168 in the first innings. Sherfane Rutherford starred with the bat as he played an unbeaten knock of 70 runs in 46 deliveries. The likes of Shoaib Malik (25 off 22) and Ben Cutting (26 off 17) also gave him valuable support.

However, that total proved too little for a daunting batting unit of Islamabad United. The opening pair of Paul Sterling and Alex Hales ripped apart Peshawar Zalmi’s bowling unit. They chased down the total in just 15.5 overs with 9 wickets in hand.

Paul Sterling was the only one who got out and that too via a run-out. Heading into the next game on Wednesday, Peshawar Zalmi should love to exhibit an improved bowling performance.

On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars are coming off a morale-boosting win over Karachi Kings. They would look to continue the winning momentum on Wednesday. Despite not picking a single wicket in the first half of the innings, Lahore Qalandars did well to restrict Karachi Kings to 170 runs in the first innings.

Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 3 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs. Shaheen Afridi (1 for 31) and Rashid Khan (1 for 24) also returned with good numbers.

Lahore Qalandars, in reply, lost two wickets early inside the power play. However, Fakhar Zaman kept the hopes alive with some serious ball-striking. He didn’t care what was happening at the other end and was smashing the ball to all parts of the ground. The southpaw went on to hit an outstanding century and helped the team chase down the score in 19.2 overs.

The pitch here at National Stadium is usually good for the batting. The teams batting first usually tend to score big totals on the board. Most of the matches have been high-scoring encounters thus far.

One can expect the upcoming game between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars to be another such affair. Both teams would look to bowl first upon winning the toss, keeping in mind, especially the due factor.
