Rohit Sharma is one of India's most decorated openers. The right-handed batsman initially started as a middle-order batsman and struggled to cement his place in the Indian team across formats. However, his career witnessed a remarkable turnaround once he was promoted as an opener in 2013.
He started opening the innings regularly in the white-ball formats in 2013 and did not take long to become one of the most feared openers in the world. After his success as an opener in limited-overs cricket, Rohit was promoted to open the innings in Tests as well in 2019.
As an opener, Rohit has created several records with his stunning batting exploits and is still one of the best batters in the world.
Just a handful of months after being promoted as an opener in 2013, he smashed his maiden ODI double ton, achieving the feat against Australia in November 2013. Later in 2014, he broke the world record for the highest ODI score after smashing a monumental 264 against Sri Lanka.
In 2017, he scored another double-century against Sri Lanka in ODIs. At present, he is the only batsman with more than one double century in the 50-over format. Rohit Sharma’s T20I centuries number stands at 5 and he jointly holds the record for most hundreds in T20Is.
Previously, he also held the record for scoring the fastest T20I century when he smashed a 35-ball ton against Sri Lanka. Overall, Rohit Sharma’s total centuries in all the formats is more than 45.
Rohit Sharma centuries in ODIs:
While Rohit Sharma made his debut in ODIs in 2007, he had to wait for three years to make his first century in the format. His first ODI ton came against Zimbabwe in 2010. Two days later, he scored another one against Sri Lanka.
It was followed by another barren run as he had to wait for three more years for another ODI ton. He scored a century against Australia in Jaipur and it kickstarted a fine run for him in the 50-over format. Till the end of 2015, Rohit scored eight centuries in ODIs including 3 scores of 150 or more.
In the following 19 months, he managed to hit just two centuries before bouncing back in style in the second half of 2017 as he hit as many as six centuries including his third ODI double hundred. His brilliant run continued in 2018 as well as he hit six more ODI tons.
In 2019, he starred for India in the ODI World Cup by smashing a world record five centuries in the competition. Since the century-laden run in 2019, Rohit has managed to score only 3 more centuries till now. At present, Rohit Sharma’s total ODI centuries number stands at 31. Rohit Sharma centuries in T20Is:
Rohit made his debut in T20Is in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup. While he did not score a century in the tournament, he played some key knocks in India's historic triumph. The right-hander had to wait for eight years after his debut to make his first century in T20Is.
Rohit Sharma’s first T20I century came in 2015 during the Dharamsala T20I against South Africa. It also made him only the second Indian player after Suresh Raina to score a century in all three formats. In 2017, he scored his second T20I century against Sri Lanka and became the first Indian to have more than one century in the shortest format of the game.
In 2018, he became the first Indian to hit three centuries in T20Is, achieving the feat against England. As of now, he has five T20I hundreds and jointly holds the record for most T20I tons.
