Sourav Ganguly parents:
Sourav Ganguly was born to Chandidas Ganguly and Nirupa Ganguly on 8 July 1972 in Behala, Kolkata. Sourav Ganguly's father, Chandidas was one of the wealthiest people in his region as he successfully ran a print business in the city.
Time and again, Ganguly has said that his father had the biggest impact on shaping his professional life. Besides running a highly successful business, Chandidas also served as the assistant secretary for the Cricket Association of Bengal from 1974–1975. Additionally, he also held positions as treasurer, secretary, vice-president, and trustee board member.
On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly's mother, Nirupa was a homemaker. Nirupa was also a pillar of strength for her son when he was working hard to become a cricketer. Nirupa was glued to the television screen when Ganguly made his Test debut at Lord's in 1996 and went on to hit a memorable century.
Sourav Ganguly's brother:
Sourav Ganguly has a sibling and an elder brother. Sourav Ganguly's elder brother's name is Snehasish Ganguly. Just like his younger brother, Snehasish wanted to become a cricketer as well but could not enjoy much success in the game.
It was Snehasish who had talked his father into letting Sourav pick up cricket as his sport in his early days. At present, Snehasish is the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
Sourav Ganguly's wife:
Sourav Ganguly is married to Dona Ganguly. Their formal wedding took place in 1997. Their families were neighbours and so Ganguly and Dona knew each other from their childhood. However, their families were sworn enemies at that time and they had to face a lot of difficulty in getting married.
In the end, Ganguly and Dona eloped and took their wedding vows at a friend's place in 1996. They managed to keep their wedding a secret for around six months before their families came to know about it. Both the families were very disappointed but eventually accepted the wedding. Later, in February 1997, Ganguly and Dona had a formal wedding in the presence of their family members and friends.
Dona is a trained Odissi dancer and has performed in several festivals around the world. She also runs a dance school named 'Diksha Manjari'.
Sourav Ganguly's kids:
Sourav Ganguly and Dona have one child, daughter Sana. She was born in November 2001. Sana did her schooling in Kolkata before completing her graduation in Economics from University College London. Sana is a trained Odissi dancer too, like her mother. She has also appeared in TV commercials with her father. She is currently working in London.
