Although Pakistan does not have MS Dhoni, they have a Mohammad Rizwan who has been a very consistent wicketkeeper for the national for the last few years. Mohammad Rizwan is a wicket-keeper batsman who is known for his match-winning knocks as an opener in the past. He is a right-handed batsman.
In the current setup, Mohammad Rizwan is considered a highly experienced member of the Pakistan team with Babar Azam. Notably, both Rizwan and Babar pair grabbed historical victories for Pakistan in the shortest format. This includes the ICC T20 World Cup win against India in 2021- the only victory by Pakistan against India in ICC tournaments.
Rizwan is a patient top-order batsman. However, he has been often criticized for his poor strike rate in the shortest format. Recently, he and Babar Azam were targeted for Pakistan's defeat against the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is being dubbed as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the T20 World Cup.
Early and Personal Life
Mohammad Rizwan was born on June 1, 1992, in Peshawar City in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. He was born to Akhter Parvez and grew up with his three brothers. He got married in 2015 and has three daughters.
Domestic Career
Mohammad Rizwan got his first break in April 2018, when he was named as the vice-captain of the Punjab Team in the Pakistan Cup. Later, he impressed with his batting shows and Federal Areas named him as the captain in the 2019 edition. He became a regular member of Pakistan's domestic circuit and also played in the County Championship in England for Sussexx in 2022.
International Career
Rizwan made his international debut in an ODI match against Bangladesh in April 2015. Later, he also made his T20I debut in the same series. Next year in November 2016, Rizwan also made it into Tests during the New Zealand tour.
In his initial days, Rizwan was highly appreciated for his hard-hitting batting as a wicketkeeper in the shortest format. He has played more than 100 T20I games for Pakistan and also accounts for a century. Notably, Rizwan is one of the few batters in international cricket who has slammed a century in all formats.
He has featured in 30 Tests and has played over 70 ODIs as of 2024. He is one of the few Pakistan members who are regular members of the side in all three formats.
Franchise Career
Rizwan has been active in the Pakistan Super League since the 2016 edition, where he played for Lahore Qalandar. Later, he switched to Karachi Kings from 2018 to 2020. Since 2021, he has been part of Multan Sultans and also leads the side.
In foreign leagues, Rizwan has played for Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League in the 2017 edition. He also represented Comilla Victorians in the tournament in the 2023 season. Hence, we can conclude that Rizwan has been more active in the Pakistan Super League.
