Rajasthan Royals haven’t got to the playoffs in the last two editions and the lack of quality Indian players have hurt them as they will have to choose better this time. Royals in need of a change in their fortunes have let go off Steve Smith and have named Sanju Samson as the new captain of the franchise.

Royals played decently in this season winning three of the seven games they played and they will have a tough ask while picking the two overseas players that could be retained. Rahul Tewatia:

Apart from Sanju Samson, the Indian contingent looks very inexperienced in the Rajasthan Royals squad and one of the bright prospects in the last edition was Rahul Tewatia for them. He played a lot of important knocks in the middle order and backed it up with some good economical overs in the middle.

His good performances even earned him a call in the Indian limited-overs squad where he couldnt get through the fitness test. However, he has been on the radar of the selectors and the leg-spinning all-rounder can hit some lusty blows at the back end. He had a quiet season in the IPL 2021 and couldn’t make much impact. On a long time basis, he will be certainly considered for the RTM card.

Jos Buttler:

Only two overseas players could be retained by the franchise and with three English stars of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, only two might get the nod. Buttler’s century in the last game for the Royals was one of the positives for the franchise going forward and he has been the most consistent performer in the last three years.

He has been shifted up and down the order, but he is very destructive while he is opening the batting and hence, the Royals should look holding him at in the same position. He is a match-winner and does play around the field with his 360-degree batting skills. He is a key player in the Rajasthan Royals setup and is expected to be retained by the franchise.

Jofra Archer:

It is going to be a tough ask for him to be retained, but Jofra Archer is an outstanding bowler and Royals will be looking to get him by any means. Archer has been the best bowler for the Rajasthan Royals in the last two years and Royals missed his services desperately in the IPL 2021 when he suffered from an injury.

Archer cranks up a good pace and is a match-winner with the ball. He never fails to come at the batsman hard and poses a different challenge from the other bowlers. He can hit the long balls down the order too and Rajasthan will be looking to somehow get him back in the squad if the mega auction takes place.
