The Karnataka cricket team represents the state of Karnataka in India's domestic cricket. One of the most decorated and oldest teams in India, Karnataka cricket team is managed by the Karnataka State Cricket Association. The team plays its home games at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Founded in 1879, the team was known as Mysore cricket team before the state of Mysore was officially renamed as Karnataka in 1973. The Karnataka cricket team made its first-class debut in 1934 when it played against Madras in the first-ever Ranji Trophy game.
The Karnataka cricket team is one of the most successful side in Ranji Trophy. They have the second most titles in the competition after Mumbai. While Mumbai have won a staggering 42 Ranji Trophy titles, Karnataka are second with eight titles. They have also finished runners-up six times.
Karnataka has also been one of the most consistent teams in the domestic circuit. In the last decade (2010-19), they won 2 Ranji trophies, 2 Irani Cups, 4 Vijay Hazare trophies and 2 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy titles. They enjoyed a similar phase in the 90s as well when they won the Ranji Trophy in 1995-96, 1998-99 and the 1997-98 seasons.
The Karnataka cricket team has produced a number of players who have enjoyed successful career in international cricket such as Erapalli Prasanna, Gundappa Viswanath, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, Roger Binny, KL Rahul.
Some other notable players produced by Karnataka who represented India in international cricket are Sunil Joshi, Dodda Ganesh, Abhimanyu Mithun, Vinay Kumar, Stuart Binny, Karun Nair, Mayank Agarwal, Prasidh Krishna, Devdutt Padikkal, Robin Uthappa and others.
