West Indies will be coming to India in the month of February to play three ODIs and three T20 internationals. The Men from the Caribbean came to India last time in 2019 for a similar number of fixtures.
After losing the first T20I of the three-match series in 2019, West India bounced back with a win in the next game. However, they couldn’t win the last game and thus lost the series by a 2-1 margin.
Overall, the two teams have played 17 T20 internationals against each other. Out of those, India have beaten West Indies on 10 occasions, while West Indies emerged victorious 6 times.
The two teams are set to take on each other in a three-match T20 series after the completion of the ODI series in February. The first T20I will be played on 16th February, while the second and the third game will be played on 18th and 20th February 2022.
The series will present a chance for West Indies to improve their record against India in T20 internationals. However, beating India in any format in their own backyard has never been easy.
It will be interesting to see how the series pans out for both teams. In this article, let’s take a look at three Indian players who have scored the most runs against West Indies in T20 internationals.
IND vs WI: 3 Indian Batsmen With The Most Runs In T20Is Between The Two Teams
-
Rohit Sharma
Runs: 519
Matches: 15 T20Is
Average: 43.25
The upcoming T20 series against West Indies will be Rohit Sharma’s second T20 assignment as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team. In his first series as a full-time captain, India beat New Zealand by a margin of 3-0.
He was ruled out of the recently concluded tour of South Africa and will mark his comeback in the upcoming white-ball series against West Indies. Rohit Sharma has an outstanding record against West Indies in all three formats.
As far as T20 cricket is concerned, Rohit Sharma has scored 519 runs in 15 T20Is at an average of 43.25, including one century and four half-centuries. Overall, Rohit Sharma has 3197 runs in 119 T20Is at an average of 33.3.
-
Virat Kohli
Runs: 501
Matches: 12
Average: 62.62.
Virat Kohli is no longer India’s captain in any format. He has removed the burden of captaincy from his shoulders. A lot of that has to do with the fact that he hasn’t scored a hundred in any format for more than 2 years now.
Having said that, he hasn’t been in the worst form either. In the last three ODIs he played against South Africa, Virat Kohli managed to score two half-centuries.
The upcoming white-ball series at home against West Indies will present a great opportunity for Virat Kohli to end his century drought and get back to his prime form.
In T20 internationals, Virat Kohli has scored the second most number of runs by an Indian batsman against West Indies. He has played 12 T20 internationals against West Indies and scored 501 runs at an average of 62.62.
-
KL Rahul
Matches: 9 T20Is
Runs: 353 runs
Average: 58.83
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul got the opportunity to lead the Indian Cricket Team in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa. He had a horrendous outing both with the bat and captaincy. India went on to lose all three matches and thereby lost the series 3-0. With that bat, KL Rahul managed to score only 76 runs in 3 ODIs at an average of 25.33.
Ahead of the white-ball series against West Indies, KL Rahul would look to get back to form and make a significant contribution with the bat. KL Rahul has a pretty good record against West Indies in T20 internationals and he would be confident of delivering match-winning performances in the T20 series.
So far in his career, he has managed to score 353 runs in 9 T20 internationals against West Indies at an average of 58.83.
