Pakistan and West Indies will play the last of the three-match T20 series on Thursday at the National Stadium in Karachi. The match will have little relevance to the outcome of the series as Pakistan have already sealed it by a 2-0 margin.
Pakistan won both the T20 internationals played so far and would be keen to make it 3-0. West Indies, on the other hand, look for their first win of the tour.
As compared to the first T20 international, Pakistan had to toil hard to win the next match. Skipper Babar Azam, once again, got out cheaply after scoring just 7 runs. He, unfortunately, got run-out, while Fakhar Zaman (10 off 5) too didn’t add a lot to the total.
Mohammad Rizwan (38 off 30) and Haider Ali (31 off 34), however, made a decent recovery and set the foundation for a big score. Later, Iftikhar Ahmed (32 off 19) and Shadab Khan (28 off 13) played crucial knocks to take Pakistan to 172 run-total in the first innings. West Indies spinners, namely Akeal Hosein (1 for 16) and Hayden Walsh (1 for 30) bowled well, but the seamers went for plenty of runs.
In reply, West Indies didn’t get off to a great start as they lost two wickets inside the first four overs. Nicholas Pooran (26 off 26) looked good but once again failed to convert the start into a big score. He got out in the 11th over and wickets kept falling in regular intervals after that.
West Indies talented opener Brandon King, however, kept the team’s hopes alive as he played an outstanding 67-run knock off 43 balls. He hit 6 fours and 3 wickets during his stay and ensured the runs keep coming from one end despite wickets falling regularly.
Later, Romario Shepherd also played an unbeaten 19-ball 35 but all those contributions went in vain as West Indies fell 9 runs short of the target. Pakistan should be happy with how they bowled. It was a combined bowling effort from the team. Shaheen Afridi starred was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 26 in 4 overs. M Nawaz, M Wasim Jr. and Haris Rauf picked two each.
