PAK vs WI: Keemo Paul Added To West Indies Squad For Pakistan Tour

After an extraordinary execution in the recently-concluded Regional Four-Day Championship, all-rounder Keemo Paul has been added to the West Indies crew for the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series in Pakistan which starts today. 

Talking at a virtual press conference earlier today morning, skipper Nicholas Pooran said Paul is headed to Pakistan and was expected to show up the last evening.

Keemo Paul Ready For A Comeback: CWI Selector Desmond Haynes

Cricket West Indies (CWI) affirmed, in a public statement given yesterday, that Paul, who completed as the leading quick bowler and second-highest wicket-taker in the West Indies Championship that finished on Saturday, would join the remainder of the team which showed up on Monday after a 3-0 series win in The Netherlands.

“Keemo Paul has been kept out in the recent past due to injury and we view the management of his body as paramount to his success, not only when on West Indies duty but also when he is with his regional franchise.

We have watched him perform in the recent West Indies Championship Four-Day Competition for the Guyana Harpy Eagles and we think he is ready to come back into the fold,” said CWI’s lead selector Desmond Haynes. 

Keemo Paul In The Squad For First Time Since February 2020

Paul last played an ODI in February 2020 and was not a member of the squad that played against the Netherlands as of late. His return was provoked by great returns in the domestic tournament where he was the top wicket-taker among quick bowlers.

The 24-year-old Guyanese finished the Four-Day Championship with 20 wickets at an average of 22.8 runs per wicket from the five matches. 

The West Indies’ visit to Pakistan frames part of the ICC ODI Super League, where the Caribbean side will get the opportunity to acquire points as they attempt to qualify for the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India. 

The other two matches, which will likewise be held at the Multan Stadium, are planned for Friday and Sunday.
