While there is no doubt Delhi Capitals Women were outclassed in the final of the Women’s Premier League 2023, the Meg Lanning-led side will be eager to bounce back ahead from their defeat. The team were the top side finishing at the top of the league standings winning 6 out of their 8 games in the tournament.

In a captivating finale, the Mumbai Indians, led by the dynamic Harmanpreet Kaur, emerged victorious over the Delhi Capitals, captained by the prolific Meg Lanning, thereby exacting revenge for their earlier defeat in the group stages and clinching the coveted championship title.
The Mumbai Indians exhibited a dominant display of bowling prowess, effectively containing the Delhi Capitals’ batting line-up to a meagre total of 131 runs. Although the Delhi team seemed to be faltering with the prospect of collapsing under 100 runs, the spirited efforts of their lower-order batswomen, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav, saw them rally to post a formidable 52-run partnership for the 10th wicket, which helped to keep their side in the game.
Despite losing two early wickets in their chase, the Mumbai Indians demonstrated a composed and determined performance, with Nat Sciver playing a pivotal role. Sciver’s unbeaten 60 runs off 55 deliveries propelled her team to a convincing 7-wicket victory, clinching the championship crown for the Mumbai Indians.
We Wanted To Win Tonight: Meg Lanning
Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning was present with the broadcasters during the post-match presentation where she talked about how her team performed in the tournament. Lanning mentioned that while her team obviously wanted to lift the title there was no doubt that Mumbai Indians were the better side.

“We would have like to win tonight but full credit to Mumbai Indians they were brilliant tonight. We didn’t play our best cricket but we fought till the end and I am proud of the whole unit. We weren’t thinking of a target as such but we would have like to put a few more. Just quite couldn’t get over the line tonight. We had a really good powerplay and the first 10 overs but Harmanpreet and Nat Sciver did really well to take the game away from us tonight. I have enjoyed playing spin, enjoyed my experience with DC. Everyone responsible at this franchise, made us feel very welcome. A massive thank you to them.”
While it is pretty sure that the loss will hurt the Delhi Capitals, the team are a strong side and will like to come back stronger next time around and clinch the title. With a skipper as good as Meg Lanning at the helm it is surely a possibility.
