Women's T20 World Cup 2023: West Indies' Rashada Williams Fined For Breaching ICC Code of Conduct

West Indies Women’s Cricket wicket-keeper batter Rashada Williams was involved in a heated moment with Ireland’s bowler Leah Paul during the 6th over. Rashada Williams made deliberate physical contact. West Indies registered a nervy win over Ireland where they chased down 138 in 19.5 overs & won the match by 6 wickets

Rashada Williams was found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players & Player Support Personnel which states that “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.”

ICC on Rashada Williams incident

ICC issued a statement on Rashada Williams’s breach of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct

“Williams admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. There was no need for a formal hearing.” ICC said in an official statement.

“On-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Vrinda Rathi, third umpire Lauren Agenbag and fourth umpire N Janani levelled the charge. “Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.” the ICC statement further read

Great win for West Indies

The Women in Maroon won a thriller against Pakistan on 19th February where they won the match by a mere 3 runs. West Indies defended 117 runs where Shamilla Connell defended 18 runs of the last over. This win for West Indies means that they are still in the race of the Semi Final for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup  2023.

West Indies are placed  at 3rd position with 4 points and with a NRR (Net Run Rate) of -0.601. West Indies next match is against England on 21st February which is a virtual quarter-final match for them On the other hand, Pakistan are out of the tournament. They would rue the fact that they couldn’t accelerate in the middle overs phase which hurt them.
