ICC World Cup 2023: Fantastic That Ben Stokes Made Himself Available- Jos Buttler

England skipper Jos Buttler has said it is fantastic that Ben Stokes made himself available for ICC World Cup 2023. Ben Stokes recalled his ODI retirement ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 and will be part of the team in the multi-national tournament.

Earlier in 2022, Ben Stokes had retired from ODI cricket to focus on Test captainship. However, ahead of the World Cup, the England Test skipper revoked his retirement decision and made himself available for the tournament.

Speaking to Sky Sports, England skipper Jos Buttler said that it was fantastic for Ben Stokes to make himself available for ICC World Cup 2023.

“Yes. It’s excellent news on all fronts. I think it’s great for cricket, a superstar like Ben Stokes in the World Cup. You want to see those players in such showpiece events. It is fantastic that he’s made himself available. When a player of that calibre is available, It’s a no-brainer, really, that you want him back in your team”, the England opener said.

Buttler also added that Ben Stokes had a lot of impact in the last two World Cups for England. Notably, Stokes won the Player of the Match award in the final of ICC World Cup 2019.

“Look at the impact he has had especially in the last couple of World Cups, you know, he’s the man in the middle of the crucial moment. So, yeah, we’re delighted to have him back. And it’s not just cricket, but everything else he brings to the dressing room,” Buttler further added.

Stokes is also part of England’s preliminary squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. He will also play in the forthcoming ODI series against New Zealand at home.

England is the defending champion of the ICC World Cup 2023. In the previous edition, England won the trophy after crushing New Zealand in the final. Jos Buttler is set to lead the team in the tournament while Stokes will be a crucial middle-order batter and an all-rounder.

England will play the tournament opener of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand. The encounter takes place on October 5 in Ahmedabad.
