The date February 1, marks the birthday of former Indian international cricketer Ajay Jadeja, who was an integral part of the Team India during the 90s.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to send a special message to his former colleague on what turned out to be his 47th birthday.

Ajay developed a reputation for being a fine fielder during an era when fielding wasn’t a strong suit for the Indian team. He and Robin Singh were the trailblazers who took pride in fielding and fitness standards in the Indian squad then, much like the current all-rounder who is acrobatic on the field.

Ajay and Sachin Tendulkar shared the dressing room for a good part of the last decade of 20th century (1992-2000) and were the part of two Indian World Cup campaigns (1996-Indian subcontinent, 1999-England and Wales).

The 47-year-old Ajay is still remembered for his epic knock of 45 off 25 balls against Pakistan at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore during the quarterfinals of the 1996 World Cup.

Waqar Younis, who was still in his prime then, faced the wrath of Ajay’s blade when he conceded 20 runs off just four balls during the back end of the inning.

A veteran of the ODI format, Ajay amassed as many as 5,359 runs to his name at an average of 37.3.

The right-handed batsman Ajay registered six tons and 30 half centuries in the 196 games he played for the country.

However, his contribution to Indian Cricket was marred by allegations of match-fixing back in 2000. He was handed a five-year ban by BCCI which was later uplifted by Delhi Court in 2003. He resumed his domestic career but could not find his way into the Indian team.

The former allrounder now enjoys the role of a Hindi commentator-cum-expert with Sony Pictures Network (SPN).
