South Africa pacer, Dale Steyn has been ruled out for at least 4-6 weeks due to issue in his heel, which also means that he will not play any part in the Test series against India.

Steyn was already in doubt for the first Test due to fitness concerns but made it to the XI, surprisingly.

“Understandably he was disappointed but he will try his best to recover as quickly as possible. You could see how much he was enjoying himself out there,” Mohammed Moosajee, South Africa’s team manager said.

Steyn was taken to the hospital earlier during the play to check for the bruised heel, and later, it turned to be a tissue tear in left heel.

This injury has further hampered Steyn’s success as he was making a comeback to South Africa playing XI after one year.

Steyn was ruled out of the team during Perth Test against Australia in November 2016 due to a broken shoulder. He returned to the field after almost a year and was included in the squad for historical four-day day-night Test against Zimbabwe. Even before the start, he was ruled out due to viral infection, and when he got a place in playing XI, he injured himself and is ruled out again.

Steyn scalped two wickets in team India’s first innings. Visitors’ score would not have reached to 209 had Dean Elgar held on to Hardik Pandya’s catch after the Lunch break.

Pandya went on to score 93 and brought down the difference between two teams to 77 after the end of India’s innings.

South Africa were two down for 65 at the end day two. They now have a lead of 142 runs.

The Virat Kohli’s men will look not to allow lead swell past 250 as any score beyond 250 might be beyond team India’s reach, considering the form of the Indian batsmen in their first innings on tour.
